This Blogger's Position on Gambling

I'm going to show my libertarian past here, but I really can't work up too much excitement in a fight against casinos. They are all around us. Indiana is making a killing...and they are laughing at us while they take our money. Like Steven, I'd like to see some of this big cashola be an offset for taxation.

The Alliance, as a whole, has never taken a position on this or any other issue. When the Alliance was formed, we talked about endorsing some candidates, but decided that we should have some autonomy for the various member blogs so that they could each present their own case. I still think that is the best course for the Alliance.

But I'm willing to discuss the issue... My position is this: if we get casinos, that's great; if we don't, that's perfectly fine with me too.

For what it's worth, I think there should be a sportsbook in every Kroger.

And a poker room on every corner, my friend.

Yep...if Voinovich is so worried about the devastating effect of gambling, on families, maybe he should introduce legislation outlawing alcohol (seems familiar somehow), or fatal car accidents, or cancer. Don't they devastate families too?
